Academic research

Academic research

Since the foundation of  Turningpoint in 1999, research has played a central role. Initially, we developed a research project in collaboration with Ashridge University in London and HEC Paris. Since 2012, Turningpoint has established a research partnership with EMLyon on Executive Leadership – read more about this partnership here. All our leadership development and coaching programs have served as a basis for research for two successive PhD students. The first topic was the logic of Leader Engagement, followed by “Leader Vulnerabilities”.

Recent research collaborations

Recent research collaborations

In 2023, Turningpoint initiated a reinforced partnership with Sciences Po and the Chair of Organization and Work Transformation led by Henri Bergeron, Director of the CNRS/Sciences Po. Turningpoint supports the annual “Rethinking work” award alongside the newspaper, Le Monde. Read more about our partnership hereSince 2024, Turningpoint started a new research collaboration with the University of Montreal together with SciencesPo on Cooperation titled “Representations of leadership in contemporary organizations: Practical implications”, resulting in a publication of a comprehensive literary review.

The TP Lab

The TP Lab

In 2012, Turningpoint launched the TP Lab, a dedicated space to share research, ideas and experiences in order to develop new coaching methods for managers and their organizations. The TP Lab includes internal and external experts, and a large number of our coaches. Meetings and workshops are held several times a year, and these fruitful discussions allow us to remain innovative, informed and stimulated. Read about one of our latest workshops here.

Our research partnerships

We have a close partnership with EMLyon since 2012, and have since extended our research partnerships to SciencesPo and the Université de Montreal.

Bridget Farrands

Bridget Farrands

Drawing upon Turningpoint research into leadership transitions started in 1999, and in collaboration with Ashridge University and HEC Paris, Bridget Farrands and Richard Elsner identified polarizing situations – leadership tensions – that can place a new leader in a highly tenuous situation of which he is not always conscious. The research resulted in a book “Leadership Transitions – How business leaders take charge in new roles” (Kogan Page, 2012). The book is based on 4 stories of relative successes and failures. Benjamin Pavageau

Benjamin Pavageau

Today a Doctor in Management Science, Benjamin was accompanied by Turningpoint for 7 years (2012-2019) as part of his research on leader engagement. His research demonstrated that the habit of giving, in whatever form, plays a central part in leadership development, both at the level of the leader and his team, as well as the entire organization. More about our collaboration with Benjamin here.
