Turningpoint was born out of research on leadership transitions in Europe. The Turningpoint team has maintained this spirit of research and constant innovation in regards to both content development and teaching methods.
Noun
1- A space of work and socialization created to respond to different societal, organizational, scientific and technical issues.
2- A space to share research, ideas and experiences in order to develop innovative coaching methods for managers and their organizations.
Since Turningpoint was founded in 1999, research and development have played a central role. Our adventure began with research on senior executive onboarding in Europe, in collaboration with Ashridge University in London and HEC Paris. This theme also earned us our name: Turningpoint! Since 2012, Turningpoint has established a research partnership with EMLyon and the French Institute of Corporate Governance – read more about this partnership here. Several of our leadership development and coaching programs have served as research ground for two successive PhD students, first on “Leader Engagement“, followed by “Leader Vulnerability”.
In 2023, Turningpoint established a strengthened partnership with SciencesPo Paris and the Chair of Transformation of Organizations and Work headed by Henri Bergeron, Director of CNRS/Sciences Po. Within this framework, SciencesPo is collaborating with the University of Toronto on the theme of cooperation, entitled “Representations of Leadership in Contemporary Organizations: Practical Implications”. In addition, Turningpoint supports the annual “Rethinking work” award with the newspaper, Le Monde. Read more about our partnership here.
In 2012, Turningpoint launched the TP Lab, a dedicated space for developing and reinforcing our practices by drawing on the latest research and innovations. The TP Lab regularly brings together our coaches and experts to continuously renew our approaches and teaching methods. Read about one of our latest TP Lab workshops here.

Charles Revue, a PhD student and now tenured professor at EM Lyon, completed his thesis on vulnerability in business leaders in 2024. His thesis focuses on management tools, and how they often can be a blind spot for leaders. He started his research with a dissertation on vulnerability while completing his Masters degree in Management Science at KEDGE Business School.
The effect work tools have on leader vulnerability.
Today a Doctor in Management Science, Benjamin was accompanied by Turningpoint for 7 years (2012-2019) as part of his research on leader engagement. His research demonstrated that the habit of giving, in whatever form, plays a central part in leadership development, both at the level of the leader and his team, as well as the entire organization. More about our collaboration with Benjamin here.
Drawing upon Turningpoint research into leadership transitions started in 1999, and in collaboration with Ashridge University and HEC Paris, Bridget Farrands and Richard Elsner identified polarizing situations – leadership tensions – that can place a new leader in a highly tenuous situation of which he is not always conscious. The research resulted in a book “Leadership Transitions – How business leaders take charge in new roles” (Kogan Page, 2012). The book is based on 4 stories of relative successes and failures.
