On May 6th, the coaches at Turningpoint Leadership gathered for our TP Lab: a dedicated time for exploration, reflection, and collective thinking around the transformation of work and management.

We were fortunate to welcome:

  • Pierre-Yves Gomez, economist, professor emeritus at EM Lyon and a recognized expert on governance, work, and the role of business in society
  • Henri Bergeron, sociologist, research director at CNRS and a specialist in public policy, organizations, and the transformation of work
  • Louison Carroué, PhD researcher supported by Turningpoint as part of our partnership with Sciences Po

For the occasion, Louison gave us a first look at his as-yet-unpublished literature review on the impact of generative AI in organizations. It was a fascinating discussion, and this is only the beginning.

A few key takeaways stuck with us:

  • AI isn’t just transforming tools, it’s transforming how control and management work. Algorithms are increasingly able to evaluate, guide, and automate certain managerial functions, often invisibly.
  • With ChatGPT and generative AI, change came “from the bottom up.” Unlike previous waves of technology that were rolled out top-down by organizations, employees adopted these tools on their own, well before companies had time to put any framework around them. The real challenge, then, is no longer AI adoption but rather how organizations tame and integrate it.
  • The real questions at stake aren’t just technological anymore. They’re deeply human. What happens to human work when part of our thinking gets outsourced? What skills do we need to build? How do we preserve collaboration, trust, and collective responsibility once AI becomes an everyday teammate?

Thank you to everyone who took part for such a rich exchange of ideas. Check out the day recap below.
