What role does “giving” have in the practice of an authentic leadership?

Based on research in the field of executive leadership practices, we show that leadership is built through a mutual commitment relationship with “followers” and is not simply a commitment limited to the employment contract. Drawing upon studies in organizational commitment, we hypothesize that commitment can no longer be confined to a psychological state —it is also an expression of the dynamics of giving. Therefore, the leader should logically participate in these dynamics of giving to exercise his or her leadership.
